Email marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating messages to customers or potential customers.
For many reasons, Email marketing has become an extremely popular and important method of Internet marketing, but it comes with important rules and laws you are required to use or you could end up "Blacklisted" or worse.
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 authorizes an $11,000 penalty per violation for spamming (per recipient). Because of the Act, most companies will hire or pay a service to manage their email marketing. To comply with the Act's regulation of commercial email, services typically: require users to authenticate their return address and include a valid physical address, provide a one-click unsubscribe feature, and prohibit importing lists of purchased addresses which may not have given valid permission.
