Social Media Marketing
"To not use Social Media Marketing is like getting a phone and not calling anyone."
- Kurt Zenisek
Social Media Marketing (SMM) helps companies achieve branding and marketing goals through the participation in various social media networks (Facebook, Digg, DropJack, Blogs, etc).
In these tough economic times, businesses need to reduce costs, but not at the expense of decreasing marketing and promotion. The worst 2 decisions you can make as a business owner is (one) stop investing marketing and PR, and (two) stop investing in your people. So what can you do?
First, you cut your budgets in the expensive areas you know don't give you a good return on investment (ROI) (i.e. phonebook, direct mail, high priced video and PR companies, etc.) and you empower your staff (who have time because business is slow) to start Social Media Marketing.
Social Media Marketing Model
So all junk aside, how does social media marketing really work? Let's start by looking at this model:
In this model, you can see how once person participating in 4 social media marketing sites creates overlapping communities. This is just like being on a bowling team, participating with card club, or Thursday golf with friends, or the Entrepreneurial Development Center (EDC). Separate communities with one thing in common - YOU.
Now the rest is just common sense packaged. If you've been in business long, you understand the best relationships in business often come from networking. Social Media Marketing is simply networking online. It works. It all starts with a company focus on Blogging (my next topic), and everyone can do it. It's inexpensive, and it uses available labor.
Here are the Internet Marketing Group's Social Media Marketing website stats:

Does this mean that just anyone can open a Digg account and get 191 page views in a month? Absolutely not. Social Medial Marketing requires strategic thinking and tactical execution. When I'm sick, I go see a doctor. If your social media marketing efforts are in the neighborhood of "lame" (as my daughter would put it), then we can help.
